Turkish Delights at Taylor-Grady House
In November, 2024 the Turkish Delights exhibition and sale of exquisite, handwoven rugs was organized and hosted by MCAF in partnership with Hassan’s Rugs and Taylor-Grady House at Landmark Commons.
The week-long event included the Sip and See educational program with a talk by Nile Candan, the Turkish Delights Gala and Fundraiser, and the Turkish Delights Eclectic Bazaar. A portion of all proceeds benefited the Taylor-Grady House National Historic Landmark.
“WARRIOR WOMEN” An Exhibition of 60 Ceramic Sculptures by Alice Woodruff
January 24 - February 21, 2025 at Taylor-Grady House
Material Culture & Arts Foundation is proud to sponsor “Warrior Women,” an exhibit of clay sculptures by Athens-area artist Alice Woodruff, on display at Taylor-Grady House January 24 through February 21, 2025.
“Warrior Women” is a magnificent collection of 60 torsos. The exhibit portrays real-life heroines from American history, contemporary life, and women around the world. Each sculpture is accompanied by a written narrative that tells the compelling story of a woman who struggled against unfair and often brutal circumstances.
“Warrior Women” is a compelling vehicle for education. The masterful quality of the sculptures, combined with the variety of narratives across time and place, leaves a lasting impression on visitors. This is art with a purpose; beauty with soul. Women in the South - like women around the world and throughout history - faced heartbreaking challenges as they mothered, cooked, cleaned, and labored during and after slavery. Displayed within the historically-accurate surroundings of the Taylor-Grady House, these stunning sculptures and their stories will have a powerful impact.
